Biscuits and Gravy

Yield: 6 large portions

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound sausage
  • 3 cups milk
  • 1/3 cup flour
  • salt and pepper

Buttermilk Biscuits

  • 3 1/4 cups Complete Southern Biscuit Mix
  • 1 1/4 cup buttermilk or 1 1/4 milk mixed with 1 heaping tablespoon white vinegar. Mix together milk and vinegar. Let sit for at least 5 minutes, until the milk is lumpy and curdled.

Directions:

Sausage Gravy

  1. Cook sausage.
  2. Stir in flour.
  3. Add milk and bring to boil.
  4. Add salt and pepper.
  5. Reduce heat and simmer about 2 minutes, stirring occasionally until thickened, .

Buttermilk Biscuits

  1. Preheat oven to 450° F.
  2. Mix dry mix and buttermilk until just combined.
  3. Turn out onto lightly floured surface.
  4. Roll dough to a 1/2 thickness.
  5. Cut into equal portions.
  6. Place on a greased or parchment-lined baking sheet.
  7. Bake for 10-12 minutes. Drizzle with melted butter and return to the oven to finish baking.
  8. Serve hot with sausage gravy.
